Certhon Innovation Centre officially opened by UN Ambassador Share this post facebook twitter whatsapp linkedin On Thursday 31 May, the Certhon Innovation Centre was officially opened by Hans Hoogeveen, Ambassador at the UN organizations for Food and Agriculture (FAO, WFP and IFAD) in Rome. With the Innovation Centre, Certhon is once again taking major steps in the development of knowledge of daylight-free cultivation of vegetables, fruit and ornamental plants. In addition to the successful modern greenhouse and indoor farming projects that Certhon has realized, Certhon has been doing research into the optimization of the technology for daylight-free cultivation for two years now. With this, Certhon wants to contribute to the global food problem, in other words: the need to produce healthy, fresh, high-quality products all over the world, 365 days a year. In the Certhon Innovation Centre, research is being done into crops in which Certhon has expectations in various climates, humidity and light recipes. Hein van der Sande, CEO at Certhon: “With the knowledge we gain from the Innovation Centre, we can give our customers and partners optimal advice for maximum results. The first studies we started in the facility with herbs, tomato, sweet pepper, strawberry and raspberry plants already gave promising results and a delicious harvest!”. The Certhon Innovation Centre is realized with the help and knowledge of different parties: Philips, Rijk Zwaan, Delphy, Wageningen UR and Koppert Biological Systems are also part of this project. Hein van der Sande: “We all see opportunities for the future of Dutch horticulture. We are faced with new challenges, and we are keen to take it in. Certhon’s innovative genes see opportunities.” With the receipt of a greengrocer with the harvest out of the Certhon Innovation Centre, the facility was officially opened by UN Ambassador Hans Hoogeveen. The Ambassador says: “It is a great honor to be here. We notice, wherever in the world, Dutch horticulture is followed closely from an international perspective. All over the world they are happy to cooperate with us in this area. Sometimes we don’t realize enough the Dutch horticulture is like gold in our hands. That is why I am extremely proud of entrepreneurs such as Certhon who make a particularly great contribution to the innovation in Dutch horticulture and make a contribution to the solution of global food issues “.
