Greenhouse horticulture powered by geothermal energy Share this post facebook twitter whatsapp linkedin In Hungary, work is underway on the realization of Majsai Kert, a 4-hectare Venlo greenhouse for the cultivation of tomatoes and cucumbers. The project combines sustainable energy solutions with modern greenhouse technology, using geothermal energy as the primary source for heating the greenhouse. Preparations for construction are currently progressing at full speed. Production and assembly of various components are underway, while the first welding activities have started. In addition to the greenhouse structure, the complete heating system is being realized. By using titanium heat exchangers, the available geothermal heat can be transferred efficiently to the growing system. Designed for Efficient and Sustainable Cultivation The greenhouse will feature a white powder-coated structure and high-quality glass with high light transmission, an HR coating, and mild diffused properties. This combination helps maximize natural light levels while contributing to an energy-efficient growing environment. With a gutter height of 7 meters, the greenhouse provides ample space for a stable and uniform climate. In addition, an energy-saving screen system will be installed to reduce heat loss and further improve energy efficiency. Over the coming months, the focus will remain on the continued preparation and realization of the project. According to the current schedule, the first tomato and cucumber plants will be introduced into the greenhouse in June, marking the start of an important new phase for the project.
