Saving energy with precision cooling Share this post facebook twitter whatsapp linkedin JSK featured in Onder Glas How can you cool, ventilate, and heat a greenhouse using a single system — and save energy in the process? In the latest issue of Onder Glas, Walter Spek of World of Orchids shares his experience with the JSK precision cooling system, developed in collaboration with Certhon. This innovative technology allows growers to precisely control the greenhouse climate, resulting in significantly lower energy consumption. The 10-hectare orchid nursery in Bleiswijk uses the system not only for controlling temperature and humidity, but also for targeted under-table ventilation and even heating the greenhouse using recovered heat. By capturing and storing excess heat, the nursery can efficiently warm the greenhouse during colder periods, reducing its reliance on fossil fuels. This contributes to a more sustainable operation with a smaller CO₂ footprint. Thanks to a new climate computer and additional sensors, World of Orchids has gained more control over its growing conditions, enabling them to fine-tune the system to match the needs of the crop. This approach highlights the valuable role precision cooling can play in accelerating the energy transition within greenhouse horticulture.
